Tuesday, November 14

Hi Grade 4/5 parents and guardians!

Moving towards the winter season, and report cards, we have some assessments and assignments to keep busy in our class and a few reminders to pass on. Please have a quick read of the following and help your child practice and review at home:

In Science, we are finishing up our chapter on the Digestive and Respiratory systems following a chapter quiz on Friday. I will provide extra time in class and review sheets for home to work on so they are prepared for this Friday afternoon.

In Language Arts, we have begun a Novel Study on the chapter book called Number The Stars by Lois Lowry, we are working on background history, summarizing, transformation as the reading power and terminology. We have a small 12 word matching quiz (match the word to the definition) that will be held on Monday, Nov. 20th, please go over the words by quizzing your child after school, as well, I will give them time at school to practice and be familiar with the special words.

In Math, we are transitioning from addition and subtraction to multiplication. On Tuesday, Nov. 21 we will have a quiz on addition and subtraction multi-digit numbers. At home I would suggest to do practice questions with them, as well as helping them remember and practice their multiplication tables or step counting for our next unit of multiplication.

Lastly, a few reminders for students to do their home reading, and also to bring their books and sheets back to school in the bags so I can see proof that they’re reading at home! Students must also write in their agendas daily and get it signed as a proper way of communication for all 3 parties - student, parents, and teacher.

Thank you so much for reading, apologies for the long post!

Work on Words Unit 2 is Due Monday

No School Friday

Today the students completed a district reading assessment which many found challenging. It is imperative that students be reading every night for at least 15 minutes and they are reading aloud at least 2X a week. Many students find it easier to read in their head but it is a vital skill to learn to read out loud with expression. Who knows they may choose to go into politics and become our next Premier of BC! Also, this prepares them for the upper intermediate grades where the students do monthly speeches.

Monday, January 16

Good Evening,

It's that time of year again where germs are being spread and causing mass destruction. I will remind students the importance of thoroughly washing their hands and using their sneeze catchers. I will also show this video again to reiterate the point:

For Science tomorrow we will be examining the Phases of the Moon therefore if your child could bring in a flashlight that would be greatly appreciated!

Please, do not forget your child should be reading every night for at least 15 minutes. It's a proven fact that the more superior writers are the students who read more. I shared this with the class last week;
